A Friday afternoon each month finds the entire lab gathered around the ice cream counter.
We use a lab-developed recipe to make ice cream using liquid nitrogen and novel flavors dreamed up by lab members. Everyone votes on their favorite flavors at the yearly retreat.
Last years winners: Peaches and cream, raspberry and dark chocolate.
Mimosa Monday is the lab meeting that falls on the day closest to a paper being published. Instead of the usual talks, there is instead a single talk by the first author(s) walking everyone through the entire study and providing vignettes and back stories that provide insight into different choices, obstacles and unforgettable moments. The lab provides mimosas and doughnuts.
The equivalent of cocktail hour, inspired by a common lab procedure (Ficoll). Infrequent. The recipe is a slightly modified version of one that appeared in Blood.
