There isn’t one routine that describes everyone’s time in the lab. There are two main tracks for both experimental and computational biologists: staff and trainees. Trainees typically lead projects and staff play supporting roles and provide critical expertise on different lab resources and methodologies. The expectations for both tracks are otherwise very similar.
Lab routines are bound by a number of shared meetings and traditions. These include our weekly lab meeting, biweekly journal club, yearly retreat, and a yearly conference. Besides celebrating every birthday, lab traditions include Nitro Friday, Mimosa Monday and Ficoll night.
